RESEARCH ENGINEER POSITION
Louis Pasteur University (Strasbourg, France)
The Louis Pasteur University (Strasbourg, France) has an opening for a Research Engineer position in experimental studies of the magnetic properties of solids via the techniques based on x-ray Magnetic Dichroism. The successful candidate (m/f) will be a member of the Institut de Physique et Chimie des Matériaux de Strasbourg (IPCMS).
Duties
The first project will be devoted to the development of a new experimental device (high magnetic field, low temperature) for X-ray Magnetic Circular Dichroism (XMCD) on synchrotron radiation beam lines (BESSY, SLS, ESRF, SOLEIL). This project is a joint collaboration including the IPCMS (CNRS-ULP), IMPMC (CNRS-Univ. Paris 6-7) and the SOLEIL-Synchrotron Company, in the framework of the agreement between the Louis Pasteur University and the SOLEIL Company.
When not performing synchrotron experiments, the engineer will become acquainted with the different scientific topics of the IPCMS that require Synchrotron Radiation, and participate in the preparation and characterization of the relevant samples. The candidate must be available to travel occasionally in Europe and overseas, including overnight absences.
Qualifications and Expertise
The candidate should hold a PhD or an engineer diploma. A post doctoral experience would be appreciated. Experience in the following areas is desirable: x-ray spectroscopy, synchrotron radiation, ultra-high vacuum experiments, instrumental development, cryo-magnet devices. A basic knowledge of magnetism is required. The working language is French, but a fluent English language is mandatory.
General conditions
The appointment will start in February 2007 by a contract of 12 months, followed by an Ingénieur de Recherche ULP* permanent position (recruitment by competition, May 2008).
