[Sweden] Two Postdoctoral Positions at the Department of Chemistry and Bioscience at Chalmers University of Technology
Application deadline March 23, 2006
Two postdoctoral positions are available at the Department of Chemistry and Bioscience at Chalmers University of Technology, Sweden. The two positions are part of a collaborative research and postdoctoral program in organic chemistry between AstraZeneca R&D Mölndal and Chalmers. The Department encourages interdisciplinary research and we have close collaborations with physicists, physical chemists and medicinal chemists. Also, the close proximity of Organic, Medicinal and Dermatological Chemistry at Göteborg University contributes to a creative research environment. The period of the positions is for 12 months.
Position 1: Organometallic Chemistry
The research project concerns the development and studies of copper-free versions of the Sonogashira cross-coupling reaction between aryl halides or pseudo halides and terminal alkynes. The focus will be on design and synthesis of ligands to find more efficient catalysts for the reaction. The scope and limitations of a newly developed reaction protocol for the reaction will also be investigated, together with finalizing studies on the mechanism of the reaction using this protocol. The successful applicant should have a PhD in Organic Chemistry and experience in organometallic chemistry and/or organic synthesis.
Reference number 18/2006.
For further information, please contact Associate Professor Jerker Mårtensson, jerker@chalmers.se, phone +46 31 772 3071.
Position 2: Asymmetric Synthesis
This research project concerns the development of new methods for the preparation of chiral phosphine ligands, with a focus on P-chirogenic ligands. The synthesized ligands will be applied in different organometallic reactions, partly within the research group, partly as collaborations with other research groups. A PhD in Organic Chemistry is a requirement and previous experience in asymmetric synthesis / organometallic chemistry, and the handling of air-sensitive compounds is advantageous.
Reference number 19/2006.
For further information, please contact Associate Professor Nina Kann, kann@chalmers.se, phone +46 31 772 3070.
The application should include:
- a curriculum vitae with a brief description of previous research and professional experiences
- a list of publications
- two letters of recommendation as well as contact details for two reference persons
Applications in duplicate copies, marked with the reference number, should be sent to the Registrator, Chalmers University of Technology, SE-412 96 Göteborg, Sweden or by e-mail
registrator@chalmers.se no later than March 23, 2006.
Telephone: +46 31 772 1000
Telefax Registrator: +46 31 772 4922.
